What does Mental Health Look Like In the Black Comunity

I have a calling in becoming a social worker. This calling far supersedes my clinical duties as one. It is one that aims to change the stigma in the mental health community, locally and nationally. However, I also have a call to address Mental Health in the black community. Now that you have a general understanding of mental health and some of the diagnoses, I can focus on the next series of posts specific to the black community. Below are the barriers that blacks face in relation to mental health. We often minimize mental health symptoms, and speaking with a therapist is perceived as a weakness. Multiple factors affect why blacks do not seek mental health treatment. They will all be addressed in a series of posts. A portion of the black communityare uneducated about it.
